Logan Airport Rental Car Pickup: Rental Center vs Off-Airport Delivery

There are two common ways to pick up a rental car at Boston Logan. You can take Massport's free On-Airport Shuttle (Routes 22, 33 or 55) to a company at the airport's Rental Car Center, or use off-airport delivery, where the company brings the car to a meeting point. Here's how they compare and how pickup works with us.

Option 1: the Rental Car Center

Massport's Rental Car Center is at 15 Transportation Way in East Boston. From the terminals, you take the On-Airport Shuttle on Routes 22, 33 or 55. Several rental companies operate there, and when you return a car you follow the signs to the Rental Car Center (see Massport's car rental page).

Routes 22 and 33 run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, and Route 55 covers the early-morning and late-evening off-peak hours. Routes and hours can change, so check Massport's page before you travel.

One detail trips people up. Route 88 is also a free Massport shuttle, and it runs 24 hours a day, but it serves the terminals, the Economy Parking Garage and (inbound to the terminals only) the MBTA Airport Station on the Blue Line. It doesn't go to the Rental Car Center.

Option 2: off-airport delivery

With off-airport delivery, the rental company brings the car to a spot you both agree on, so there's no airport counter. Every company does it differently. Before you agree to a delivery, get these four answers in writing:

WhereThe exact address or spot where the car will be
HowHow you get there from your terminal, and whether the transport is free
CostWhether there's a delivery fee, and whether it covers the return

How BlueCar's Logan pickup works

We don't have a desk at the Rental Car Center. Instead, you take the free Massport 88 shuttle from your terminal to the Economy Garage and meet us at 239 Prescott St in East Boston, right next to it. Every Logan pickup and return happens at that address. Your license is verified online before your trip, so there's no counter line.

The $120 delivery fee covers both the pickup and the return. Logan counts as a Boston address, so on rentals of 30 days or less the $10 Boston surcharge also applies; sales tax (6.25%) applies to the $120 but not to the $10. We track your flight, so if you land late at night, the car is still ready for you.

Massport runs the shuttles, so check their page for current routes and hours.

What to have ready before you land

A few minutes of prep before your flight saves time when you land.

  • License verification. Complete the license check from the secure link we send before you travel. The rental can't start until your license is approved.
  • Flight details. Give us your airline, flight number and terminal when you book so we can track your flight.
  • Meeting details. Keep your confirmation on your phone, saved somewhere you can open without data if needed.
  • Phone and charger. You'll want a charged phone when you land, so pack a charging cable.
  • Return plan. You return the car at the same address, 239 Prescott St, and the $120 already covers it.
  • Deposits. The booking deposit ($350, or your whole rental total if that's less) is paid online when you book. The $250 security deposit is a charge, not a hold, and is refunded within 2 weeks if there's no damage or fees.

How to choose

Prefer a company at the Rental Car Center? Take the 22, 33 or 55 shuttle and check that company's hours and terms. Off-airport delivery may suit you better if you want a set meeting point and would rather skip the counter.

Neither is better for everyone. It depends on when you land, how much luggage you have, the cost and each company's terms. Compare the full cost, including our $120 delivery fee and the $10 Boston surcharge, on our pricing page.

Why there's no curbside pickup at the terminals

You may wonder why we don't just meet you at the terminal curb. In 2021, Massachusetts' highest court upheld an order barring the car-sharing platform Turo from operating at Logan, according to a news report on the decision. That's why we meet you at 239 Prescott St instead of at the terminal.
